Fans say Doja Cat should be banned from Met Gala after she arrives wearing wet T-Shirt

Doja Cat's 2024 Met Gala outfit has left social media users divided but others 'love' the idea behind the design

Doja Cat's 2024 Met Gala look has left fans divided with some saying she should be 'banned' from the event.

After arriving at last year's Met Gala red carpet paying tribute to Karl Lagerfield's cat, Choupette, many were waiting eagerly to see what Doja Cat would wear to this year's event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York.

And for 'The Garden of Time' theme inspired by a 1962 short story by J.G. Ballard and theme of this year's exhibit being 'Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion' the musician decided to wear, well, what looked like a straight-out-the-shower towel set and wet oversized t-shirt.

Doja's first outfit shows her with a towel wrapped around her body and another on her head as if she's come straight from the bathroom onto the carpet.

She's also donning makeup that looks like it's run down her face too to complete the look, although, she's had time to pop on some platform heels.

The second look shows Doja - full name Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini - without the towel, instead in what looks like a sopping wet oversized t-shirt and having removed the hair towel to show her bleached blonde hair.

And it's not taken long for people to flood to social media to weigh in on the look.

One X user said: "If this is her only outfit then don't invite Doja Cat next year. Take note Anna Wintour. Didn't you ban her from Met Gala last year?"

"She’s never getting invited again i fear," another added.

A third commented: "Doja cat should be banned from the #metgala if this is the final look…"

"Doja Cat - I would’ve sent her home and banned her from all future Met Galas for wearing this nonsense 0/10," a fourth resolved.

However, others loved the look.

A user wrote: "She has a mind like gaga when it comes to fashion and performative art pieces fr. like this is far from being the most opulent outfit there, but she just constantly thinks outside the box. i always respect her artistic vision and talent."

And in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the singer explained the process behind the look.

She said: "So, I know that people are going to do flowers but my flower of choice is the most used flower which is cotton.

"And so I wanted to do a white t-shirt, also because a white t-shirt is timeless and it felt very poetic to choose this.

"And I knew it wasn't going to blend in too much and I don't really like to blend in. So, we went with this."

Well, you can't really argue with that can you?

Doja also clarified she was 'actually wet', while wearing the look, her team having used hair gel all over her body.

She resolved: "I'm performing. It's a show tonight."

UNILAD has contacted Doja Cat's representatives for comment.
