Staggering price most celebrities have to pay in order to attend the Met Gala

It costs a pretty penny for celebrities to attend the Met Gala - but it does vary depending on a couple of factors

Can you imagine being invited to a party then having to pay a fortune to attend? Well, that's exactly what the Met Gala is.

The star-studded affair is arguably one of fashion's biggest nights, and takes place on the first Monday of May each year.

The Met Gala made its debut back in 1948 as a fundraiser for the nascent Costume Institute.

The brains behind the fundraiser was fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert.

Since Lambert hosted the first ball, Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour has taken over the reigns. She has been the lead chairperson of the Gala event since 1995.

Wintour oversees the benefit committee and the guest list, as well as choosing who will co-host the glamours event with her. This year's hosts were Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth.

When Lambert created the Met Gala, it reportedly cost just $50 a ticket.

But fast forward to 2024 and that's far from the case.

In fact, tickets are believed to be 1,500 times as more expensive now.

Reportedly a single ticket will set you back an eye-watering $75,000.

Meanwhile, a 10-seat table costs at least $350,000, BBC News reports.

Many celebs won't find themselves footing the bill for the star-studded evening however, as fashion houses are known to buy tables and invite celebrities guests along in exchange for them wearing one of their designs on the famous red carpet.

For example, last night's event (May 6) saw designer Stella McCartney attend alongside Ed Sheeran, Cara Delevingne, FKA Twigs and Sheeran's wife, Cherry Seaborn. All four famous faces donned McCartney's designs, with FKA Twigs and Delevingne's looks debuting McCartney's new collaboration with lab-grown diamond creators, Vrai.

Valerian star Delevingne's outfit boasted a whopping 500 carats of diamonds grown in Vrai’s zero-emissions foundry.

With their being so many bold fashion statements made at the Met Gala, it's expected that some are going to cause controversy - something which Kim Kardashian is no stranger to.

Kardashian's outfit for this year's event divided critics, with some branding the look 'unhealthy'.

The 43-year-old sported a corset dress for this year's red - or should we say green - carpet, showing off her staggeringly cinched-in waist.

With the uncomfortable-looking dress in mind, people said they thought the star looked 'in pain'.

Elsewhere, others expressed the health concerns that come with wearing corsets as 'they can reduce lung capacity'.

UNILAD has contacted Kardashian's reps for comment.
