A Dune 2 superfan who has seen the movie in cinemas nearly 30 times has said he'd love to be in the sequel

A superfan who memorized the entire first Dune movie has gone viral after seeing Dune: Part Two in cinemas nearly 30 times, saying he would ‘love’ to be in the sequel.

Mac J goes by @batsdune on X, but for most on 'Film Twitter', he is simply known as ‘The Dune Guy’.

Mac went viral in the first weekend of the film’s release, when his thread of posts announcing he was ‘now watching’ the movie went viral on his eighth watch.

His post that read: "round eight IMAX," along with a gif of leading star Timothée Chalamet, received a whopping 4.6 million views and nearly 10,000 likes – with nearly all his posts since receiving similar attention.

Since then, he has seen the film a further 21 times in cinemas, and is closing in on his thirtieth watch.

Speaking exclusively to UNILAD, Mac said that he plans to stop after watch number 30.

He said: "I think realistically with school and stuff 30 is going to be the limit."

When asked about his connection to Dune, he said: “I read the books when I was in like eighth grade. It's just been such a super important book and franchise to me.

“I’ve been waiting for this movie for so long, and it's just like cathartic almost.”

While 30 watches of any film may shock some, this pales in comparison to how many times he has watched Dune: Part One.

“Over 200 times. I have the entire script memorised, I could do the entire thing for you right now if you wanted,” he told me when I asked how many times.

And when I requested, he proceeded to fire off the opening to Dune: Part One off the top of his head at alarmingly impressive speed.

After going viral for his continued dedication to the film, Mac was acknowledged by the official Dune account – which posted: “@Batsdune we’ve been following along and we are your #1 fans.

"Deeply impressed by your dedication to #DuneMovie, and we want to help you on your journey. What do you think @RegalMovies, @Fandango, @Legendary, you in?”

The accounts then teamed up to give him 10 free tickets, 10 buckets of popcorn, and a mystery package from the studio containing artwork, a beanie, a hoodie, and 70 millimetre film strips of the film.

Following this, and the green-lighting of the sequel, Dune: Messiah, fans have all had the same two demands.

One posted a reply to the Dune account on X saying: “Let him be an extra in Dune Messiah," whilst another replied to his 12th watch to say: “If they don’t send you an invitation to the Dune Messiah premier, I won’t watch it.”

I asked Mac about this, to which he understandably said: “Man, being in Dune... that'd be the coolest thing ever. I would love to do that.

“That just sounds so unreal. If that ever happened, I don't think I'd be able to comprehend it.”

Fair to say, if anyone deserves it, it’s Mac.
