Lindsay Lohan says she’s ‘hurt and disappointed’ by joke in new Mean Girls movie

The movie hits UK cinemas this week

Lindsay Lohan was said to be 'very hurt and disappointed' by a joke made in the new Mean Girls film.

Lohan, 37, played Cady Heron in the iconic OG film, and makes a very brief cameo in the new movie.

But the actress was unhappy with one joke made in the new rendition, which makes a direct reference to a 2006 paparazzi video.

The movie is out in US cinemas today (16 January) and arrives in the UK tomorrow (17 January).

The film is a rendition of Tina Fey's popular Broadway show, and follows Cady as she moves from Africa to Illinois and makes friends with a group of 'mean girls', ultimately becoming one herself.

While it's not been marketed as a 'musical', there's heaps of singing and dancing, as well as new characters and some familiar faces including Tina Fey, who played the original Ms Norbury and Tim Meadows as Principal Duvall.

Speaking about the decision to avoid marketing the film as a musical, Paramount’s president of global marketing, Marc Weinstock, told Variety: “We didn’t want to run out and say it’s a musical because people tend to treat musicals differently.

“This movie is a broad comedy with music. Yes, it could be considered a musical but it appeals to a larger audience.

"You can see in [trailers for] Wonka and The Color Purple, they don’t say musical either.”

Ever since the movie was announced, fans of the 2004 flick have been desperate to watch the new instalment.

But despite being in the movie, one person who wasn't impressed was Lindsay Lohan herself.

The Freaky Friday actress was upset about a joke in the film, which made a direct reference to a paparazzi video from 2006.

During the movie, rapper Megan Thee Stallion appears and comments on Cady’s Christmas-themed talent show outfit.

“Y2K fire crotch is back,” she says.

The joke is in reference to a paparazzi video, in which Paris Hilton's pal, Brandon Davis, referred to Lohan as a 'fire crotch' back in the early noughties.

At the time, Lohan was pretty hurt by the comment.

And almost 20 years on, it's said to have stung, with a representative for the actress telling The Independent: “Lindsay was very hurt and disappointed by the reference in the film,” following the premiere.

UNILAD has reached out to Lohan's reps, as well as Paramount for comment.
