A jury has ordered 50 Cent to pay $5m (£3.2m) to a woman who claimed the rapper posted her sex tape online.
The Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ star reportedly acquired a sex tape Lastonia Leviston made with her boyfriend, recorded himself commenting on the footage and then posted the video online.
She sued the 40-year-old for invasion of privacy over the 13-minute video which appeared on the internet in 2009, and featured 50 Cent bizarrely wearing a wig as narrator “Pimpin’ Curly”.
During the footage, the character makes explicit remarks about Ms Leviston and taunts his rap rival Rick Ross, who has a daughter with her.
At the time, Ross and 50 Cent were involved in a very public feud, trading attacks against each other in song lyrics, interviews and videos.
Jurors will continue deliberating this week on possible punitive damages against the rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson.
According to reports in the U.S, since the court ruling, the rapper has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
The music star, businessman and actor reported in court papers that he has assets and debts in the range of $10m to $50m (£6.5m to £32m).
Chapter 11 allows companies time to reorganise their finances while protecting them from creditors’ demands.
Even so, it looks like pretty soon the rapper may literally not have a cent to his name!
