I’m not a very patient or tolerant person when I’m walking through town. Those pricks that cut me off, usually slowly stepping across me while talking to their partner about some shitty sandles they’ve just see in M&S window or something… I hope they go home and step on a plug. Slowly. And so can people who text while they walk, when they can’t do either particularly well.
Now designated ‘texting lanes’ are popping up in cities all over the world. Washington DC, Utah, China, and Belgium have all started to try this concept out.
While the lanes in Belgium were put in as a joke, they are actually working.
We’ve all been bumped into by a dickhead that is glued to their phone instead of looking where they’re going. Being honest, we’ve all done it too.
If there were specific lanes then people can stick to them and dawdle along staring at their screen while us non-texters can fly by, taking in our surroundings and enjoying life that little bit more.
They are probably a good idea in theory. However, I doubt most people would stick to them strictly. Also, people on their phones aren’t the most spatially aware, so they will wander in and out of lanes, and when they bump into each other, they’ll be dropping phones all over the place.
