Chinese police have repelled an invading army of Spartan warriors on the streets of Beijing.

The half-naked foreigners were dressed up as part of a publicity stunt by local food company Sweetie Salad, and deployed in one of Beijing’s busiest shopping districts.

As crowds began to swell police were forced to crack down on the marauding warriors, after they were deemed to be ‘disturbing social order’, arresting several combatants.

According to state media, one witness apparently said:

Handsome Spartan warriors tried to occupy the Chinese capital but were defeated by our awesome police in five seconds.

The organisers of the event had to offer a grovelling apology to the state security services, saying they put the models on the street to help promote a healthy diet and lifestyle.

King Leonidas is going to be disappointed. Looks like there’s going to be a lot of Spartans looking for new professions.
