The Simpsons is nearing the grand old age of 25 and has played a part in the lives of many a generation. In honour of this achievement a French artist has created his own opening credits for the show, and it is …erm…interesting.

Yoann Hervo is the man responsible for this video inspired re-imagining of the iconic titles, and it is suitably called “Weird Simpsons VHS”.

The first face we see is a familiar one, but unfortunately Bart’s image is a photo hanging above the desk of an almost naked man who appears to have an obsession with the 10-year-old.

It starts as it means to continue with multiple accidents, static, a real human baby, warped outlines, unsettling music, and a horrifyingly empty couch at the end.

It is hard to decipher quite what about the trippy one minute and twenty three second video is paying homage to the world famous show. But maybe that is harsh considering it is an incomplete project.

Originally Hervo had teamed up with other animators to create a short story in the Simpsons universe, but nothing beyond the credits was achieved.

I think I’m glad this is all they managed. I need a lie down.
