I don’t go in the sea very often, but when I do, it’s nowhere near shark infested water. If by some chance I did get bitten by a shark, I definitely wouldn’t drive myself to the hospital. But then again, I’m not Australian.
We all know that Aussies are made of sterner stuff. Like this fella.
35-year-old Jabez Reitman was surfing near Byron Bay in eastern Australia when a 2m long shark bit him.
Despite serious injuries to his back and arse, Jabez got out of the water, into his car, and drove himself to the hospital. Then he phoned his wife, telling her to ‘not panic’ before explaining how he had been bitten by a shark.
Speaking to local news, Jabez said:
I was just freaking out, I thought it was a dolphin at first. It had a bite and left.
He has had surgery on his injuries, and is in a stable condition.
