Add another thing to the list of things you enjoy that can kill you. Now even your favourite TV series has it in for you.

A new study shows that watching idling in front of the telly for five consecutive hours or more doubles the chances of suffering a pulmonary embolism.

For anyone else scratching their heads at just what that is – it is when a blood clot obstructs an artery in your lung and they aren’t advised.

The results are even scarier for members of older generations.

For those between the ages of 40-59 the chances of developing the condition are six times more likely.

So if your mom and dad have developed an addiction to Narcos, or have finally got round to seeing ‘what all the fuss is’ surrounding Orange Is The New Black, be responsible and ensure they take regular breaks.

The study, which was funded by the Japanese government, was no half-arsed effort either. It was carried out over 18 years and followed 36,007 men and 50,017 women.

Will this info be enough to prevent serial viewing? Probably not, but at least now you know to treat your favourite show like a long haul flight; regular stretching required.
