Black the Ripper is a well respected rapper slash activist from from North London who has been doing his thing on the UK Hip Hop and Grime scene for many years now.
The 28-year-old, real name Dean West, has never been one to shy away from any topic involving or surrounding weed, and his Instagram account is littered with photos of him smoking and posing with his favourite plant.
But recently, he took it one step further and posted a video online of him smoking it in the McDonald’s restaurant on Tottenham Court Road, Central London.
After we saw the video, we got in touch as we wanted to find out why he decided to film himself breaking the law in public then upload it for the world to see. As if there weren’t already enough witnesses. Black the Ripper’s motives are quite simple.
He simply told us: “McDonald’s kills more people than marijuana.”
Studies have consistently found a direct correlation between fast food, and conditions such as obesity, and diabetes. Last year, a team from Public Health Nutrition found residents are more likely to be obese if they have a greater number of fast food outlets near their home. I’m pretty sure you don’t need a bunch of people with PHD’s to come to that conclusion.
Yet, not a single person has ever died from a marijuana overdose. Studies have shown a marijuana smoker would have to consume 20,000 to 40,000 times the amount of THC in a joint in order to be at risk of dying.
Simon Stevens the Chief Executive of the NHS England has stated in the past:
Obesity is the new smoking, and it represents a slow-motion car crash in terms of avoidable illness and rising health care costs.
If as a nation we keep piling on the pounds around the waistline, we’ll be piling on the pounds in terms of future taxes needed just to keep the NHS afloat.
Maybe Black’s method of protest wasn’t the best, but he is certainly on the right track.
