A 14-year-old schoolboy from Bradford has been charged with attempted murder after stabbing his teacher.
The teenager attacked supply teacher Vincent Uzomah, stabbing him in the stomach, at Dixons Kings Academy on Thursday then went on the run. Police say he is in a stable condition.
The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was also charged with cannabis possession. He will appear before Bradford Youth Remand Court on Saturday.
Mr Uzomah, who is married with two children, was only working at the school for four weeks prior to the incident.
Paying tribute to him, one family friend was quoted as saying: “He is a very gentle and loving and caring man. I’m just so sorry this has happened to him.”
A family friend of the Uzomah’s said that members of the West Yorkshire Nigerian community had been left “really distraught” by the vicious attack.
