A British paedophile has been jailed for eight years in Cambodia for raping a child and abusing three others.
Michael Jones, from South Wales, was photographed walking hand-in-hand with an 11-year-old girl by charity Action Pour Les Enfants. They also snapped him with another child on his lap.
He was seen by the organisation buying the children gifts, giving them money and taking one underage girl to a rented room.
The investigation began back in 2013, when he reportedly contacted two underage Cambodian girls on the Phnom Penh riverfront. He was seen in a shopping centre with the girls later on, and APLE watched him give them some money.
After his arrest he was remanded into the notorious Prey Sar prison. He’s appealing the court’s decision, and if successful he would have his sentence reduced. If he’s not, he will serve the full eight years.
APLE spokesman Vando Khoem said:
The court sentenced him to eight years imprisonment and ordered him to pay 9mKHR [about £1,410] compensation to his victims
The court also ordered additional punishment of deportation for Michael Jones when he finishes his imprisonment
During the trial, Michael Jones rejected having sexually abused the four victims
APLE social workers are now working with the victims to ensure their safety and emotional well-being.
It’s not going to be pleasant for Mr Jones in Cambodian prison. Oh well.
