The survey also discovered that one in five of this age group said they had seen images online that were shocking and made them upset – while a worrying 12% said they’d been involved in or had made a sexually explicit video.

The children’s charity surveyed over 700 British kids aged 12-13, with some of those children telling them that watching porn gave them body image issues, made them depressed or made them feel pressured to engage in sexual acts.

Speaking to Childline, one teen said:

I’m always watching porn and some of it is quite aggressive. I didn’t think it was affecting me at first, but I’ve started to view girls a bit differently recently and it’s making me worried.

I would like to get married in the future, but I’m scared it might never happen if I carry on thinking about girls the way I do.

The survey comes after a 2013/2014 ChildWISE study discovered that Pornhub was one of the top five most viewed websites of British boys between the ages of 11-16.

This in turn prompted the government to announce that British school children will be taught about sexual consent from the age of 11 and onwards.
