I am not exactly a connoisseur of snow sculptures. I can make your bog standard snowman, and I got told off by the park ranger for making a huge snow cock once, but that is about it.
I’ve never heard of the Sapporo Snow Festival, but when I saw these pics, it had my full attention.
Being a big fan of (the proper) Star Wars, seeing Darth Vader in white is kind of weird. But awesome.
These sculptures were built by Japanese soldiers as part of a training exercise, and are 15 metres tall and took 3,500 tonnes of snow to make. No idea what they are training for to be honest, but whatever.
There were 200 sculptures as part of the festival, but obviously this was the coolest.
You can see the sculpture for yourself here on what I think is some sort of live stream. Not sure why you’d look at a stationary object in real time, but there you go.
They should have made Snowbi Wan Kenobi… *ahem*
