In the build up to elections, politicians tend to be on their best behaviour, trying to come across as nice, trustworthy guys. Making promises that they definitely always keep, visiting schools and hospitals, kissing babies on the head… And dressing up as super famous murderers.
Greg Peers is a Conservative Councillor running in the Cumbria County Council by-election next month, and he recently posted pictures of himself at a party… Dressed as a blood soaked Oscar Pistorius, complete with gun.
Probably not a wise move.
It’s not a great shock to find that people didn’t find it very funny, and he has since taken the pictures down and apologised, but there is a call for further action to be taken.
Labour shadow minister Liz Kendall has pushed for David Cameron to sack him:
Cameron must show he takes violence against women seriously by taking immediate action against his candidate, and the Conservatives must explain why they promoted him to senior positions in their party.
What do you reckon?
He’s not the first politician to act up. Remember when John Prescott punched a man with a mullet in Rhyl because he chucked an egg at him?
