Disney will ban selfie sticks from all its resorts and theme parks around the world from next week for safety reasons.
On Tuesday the selfie sticks will be barred at Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland in California, and the ban will come into effect on Wednesday at the parks in Hong Kong and Paris.
In a statement, Disney spokeswoman Kim Prunty said:
We strive to provide a great experience for the entire family, and unfortunately selfie sticks have become a growing safety concern for both our guests and cast.
Disney tried allowing the selfie taking abominations into the park but not on the rides but, of course, people violated that rule and attempted to use them on Space Mountain.
The problem got so bad that staff had to stop rides for extended periods, including on Wednesday when a roller coaster was shut down at Disneyland.
I think we can all agree that this is probably the greatest thing Disney have ever done.
