The modelling and fashion industries are often presumed to be shallow and exclusive. But the times look to finally be changing after a size 16 model wowed crowds at New York Fashion Week.

The ‘plus-size’ American led a procession of larger-than-size-zero models down the runway to showcase Canadian brand Addition Elle’s line of lingerie.
The need for greater diversity within the industry has taken centre stage in recent times, and New York Fashion Week has been a platform to implement change.
Australian Madeline Stewart also strutted down the catwalk in FTL Moda’s show on Sunday to ensure people with disabilities are also represented within high fashion.
The 18-year-old model with Down’s syndrome wants to fight for “inclusion and acceptance”, and act as a role model to women the world over.
Hopefully the body-confidence of all these awesome women will kick-start a drive for greater equality across the fashion industry.
