If having shady porn on your phone wasn’t already risky enough, it just got worse for users of Android phones.

It’s been revealed one such app contains malware that can change your security settings.

The software, which infiltrates your phone before changing your pin code, is known as ‘ransomware’. This is because once the phone is taken out of your control hackers demand a $500 (£323) fee in exchange for unlocking the device.

But security firm Eset are warning the public not to pay any ransoms as the pin is reset randomly, so hackers don’t actually know the code themselves.

The app named ‘Porn Droid’ looks legit, distracts users with the promise of naughty images, but when they click to open the viewer they inadvertently grant permissions which allow the Porn Droid administrator responsibilities and the ability to alter the handset’s pin.

Eset say that 75 per cent of reported cases have come from America, those randy buggers, and it is because Americans are supposedly more likely to pay a higher fee to regain access to their phone.

It sounds like quite a conundrum that plays on the embarrassment of Android customers. What would you do: Pay? Cancel the contract? Or the unthinkable; take the phone in to a store to get help?

If you do use an Android phone, it’s obviously recommended that you either install a security app, or alter your porn habits. Maybe go vintage and buy a magazine?
