This story is essentially a sad one, but with a happy ending.
A terrible tornado hit Texas a couple of weeks ago, and tragically, this dog was found in the rubble, in the arms of her deceased owner, David Tapley.
This is obviously sad because someone died in the wreckage, but also, a dog was now without its master, and was badly injured.
Thankfully, volunteers found the dog and took her to Nicholas Pet Haven. They renamed her Emma.
Vets checked Emma out, and during the storm she had unfortunately suffered head trauma, a burst ear drum, and bruising. Poor girl. But that is when one of the volunteers, Michelle Shockley, decided to give Emma a new home to rest up in.
She brought the dog (thought to be 8 years old) home, and moved her in with her family pitbull and cat. Understandably, Emma is still adjusting, and is described as quiet and subdued, but the great news is that she is beginning to eat more and wag her tail.
Emma would normally be fluffy, but had to be shaved for her treatment.
It is believed that the Tapley family had 10 dogs, 3 of which sadly died during the storm.
Emma’s new birthday is the day she survived the tornado, to celebrate her second chance at life.
I’m a huge advocate of rescuing dogs, and would encourage anybody thinking of getting a pet to check out their local rescue kennels.
