Middle lane hoggers are one of the worst things about being on the roads, but after one particularly annoying driver was fined nearly £1,000 and handed points on their licence, a change may be coming.

The unlucky (or annoying depending on how you look at it) individual was behind the wheel of a Citroen Berlingo van, and reportedly refused to move out of the middle lane on the M62, before being stopped by police in west Yorkshire.

According to police, no less than six drivers had to break because of the motorist, who was not only inconsiderate but also dangerous as they refused to move out of the way for fellow drivers.

After being handed a £940 fine and five points on their licence, hopefully next time they will think again and at the very least trundle along in the inside lane, with other drivers being handed a strong warning about their future conduct and a message that driving slowly in the middle lane will not be tolerated.
