Tragedy struck at the Red Sox game on Friday night, after a broken bat flew into the crowd and hit a woman in the second row.

Oakland Athletics batter Brett Lawrie hit a ball and saw his bat shattered, and while he kept hold of the handle, the rest broke and flew into the crowd, striking the woman and leaving her with life-threatening injuries.

The woman was immediately attended to by police and paramedics, and taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre, with medical professionals now fighting to save her life and bring her back to full health.

Lawrie claimed:

Then in between innings is when things kind of got serious and I realized there was a bit of an issue. Hopefully everything is OK and she’s doing all right.. . . That was just unfortunate right there, no doubt.

That has to be one of the unluckiest things we have heard about, and we wish the woman a speedy recovery.
