You know how we all thought that football was finally rid of Sepp Blatter after he stepped down as president of governing body FIFA? Well, in true Blatter style, he has now claimed that he did not resign at all.
Blatter also quipped that he is ‘not ready for the museum or a wax work’ but considering the various investigations into corruption that are currently underway, he might need to consider some time in prison instead.
I did not resign. I put myself and my office in the hands of the Fifa congress.
When he originally stepped down, this is what he said:
While I have a mandate from the membership of Fifa, I do not feel that I have a mandate from the entire world of football.
Therefore, I have decided to lay down my mandate at an extraordinary elective congress. I will continue to exercise my functions as Fifa president until that election.Advertisement
He is now trying to wriggle out of leaving, and it seems that the 79-year-old is trying to extend his 17-year reign even further. Dictatorship much?
