As the trailer for the latest James Bond movie premieres former Bond Roger Moore has denied a racism row as it’s reported he said Idris Elba couldn’t be 007 because he’s not ‘English, English’

Sir Roger Moore reportedly said:

A few years ago, I said that Cuba Gooding Jnr would make an excellent Bond, but it was a joke!. Although James may have been played by a Scot, a Welshman and an Irishman, I think he should be ‘English-English’. Nevertheless, it’s an interesting idea, but unrealistic.

After a social media storm, he took to Twitter to deny any racism involved.

An interview I gave to Paris Match implies I said something racist about Idris Elba. That is simply untrue. #Lost in translation.

Idris Elba is tipped to takeover Daniel Craigs stint as Bond in the future.
