A clever pen has been designed that will help those suffering from Parkinson’s disease to write clearly, and it’s taking the media by storm.
The ARC pen is a prototype put together by London’s Dopa Solution, and its vibrating, “ergonomic” design will help sufferers of the disease make larger, more readable letters.
Speaking to Wired UK, product designer Lucy Jung explained how the idea came to her after hearing from sufferers:
We heard stories of how frustrating it was for people who were still working, or who wanted to write a card, sign documents, anything that had to do with writing.
The team discovered that the vibrations make the writer feel as though their hands aren’t shaking as much – and after 14 patient tests, found themselves with an 86% success rate.
And they aim to keep bettering that, so that those suffering from Parkinson’s can do every day tasks with more confidence.
