PC Chris Stevens and great-grandfather Richard Walker walking down the street together was probably not a sight most people expected to see, but after the great grandfather found himself on the wrong bus and trying to get home, the police officer stepped in to help.
Officer Stevens saw the 83 year old walking the quarter of a mile distance home carrying heavy bags in Kingsthorpe, Northampton, and decided to not only keep him company on the way, but also carry his bags as well. Richard got home safely and the images of the duo have taken the internet by storm, with the pensioner claiming he is grateful for the help.
The officer downplayed the incident and made it clear that while he was happy to do that, it was nothing more than his colleagues would do.
PC Stevens claimed:
His wife looked a bit shocked when she opened the door and I was there with him, but he was fine.Advertisement
It’s nice that the police are getting recognition for doing good things, but it’s nothing more than any of my colleagues would have done. These things happen on a daily basis up and down the country.
