Remember Jordan Axani? The Canadian guy who was looking for someone who had the same name as his ex to take on a trip around the world? Well he found someone.
The guy practically went viral back in early November but if you don’t know who he is let me fill you in.
Basically Axani had just split up with his girlfriend and as if that wasn’t bad enough they had planned to travel the world together. He had even bought the tickets. But this didn’t stop Axani, he was going on the trip no matter what so he took to Reddit to see if there were any Canadians called Elizabeth Gallagher to join him for free.
That’s the story in a nutshell, but you can read the full article here.
Axani received thousands of emails and among them were 18 suitable candidates to take his ex’s place. When an Elizabeth Gallagher came forward she admitted that it was pretty weird in the beginning. Of course this is understandable, the idea of going on a massive trip with someone that has the name of your ex is a bit crazy. She said: “It definitely did seem a little bit creepy at the beginning, but now that I’ve talked to him, it’s less creepy and more awesome.”
Axani said that the trip is strictly platonic as Gallagher is already in a relationship, she said: “I have a pretty serious boyfriend. We’ve been together for a while. We’re planning on buying a house and we have a puppy, so yeah, I’m not really looking for anything at all.”
But the boyfriend isn’t all that happy that she’s leaving him for a month over Christmas to travel around the world with a stranger. “He understands that I’ve always wanted to travel, so while he’s not happy I’m taking off for nearly a month at Christmas with a random guy, he’s smiling through it,” she said.
When Axani broke up with his girlfriend he stopped planing the trip, which meant that although the flights were booked already there weren’t any hotel reservations. However when hotel chain Marriott International heard about the story it offered the travellers separate rooms during their trip.
Axani expressed how he wished he could have taken everyone who contacted him because he was so moved by some of the emails he received. He heard from an 8-year-old boy who said he was going blind and wanted to see the world before it happened.Unfortunately he couldn’t go but Axani and his brother have set up a charity called A Ticket Forward to help people that want to see the world but can’t afford it.
