The new plastic five pound note is making waves with its revolutionary plastic polymer structure – I can’t wait to get my hands on one.

But now I’ll think twice before giving any new ones away because, it turns out, special fivers could be worth a lot more than five pounds, with one selling for £227, according to the Mirror.

Last Tuesday, the new polymer notes were distributed to six major UK cities, and collectors have already got their eye on a special few.

If your note has come off the first press (with serial numbers beginning AA01) or the end of a press then it is worth a significant amount on Ebay.

Also a set of notes with sequential serial numbers will be worth a lot – basically, like a flush in poker!

The new money is a lot stronger than the old paper ones and has Winston Churchill majestically perched on the back.

A fun fact about the waterproof note is that behind Churchill, the clock’s hands are at 3 o’clock – the time on May 13, 1940 when Churchill made his famous ‘I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat’ speech in the House of Commons.

I’m sure one of the exciting notes will circulate its way to you soon but if you want to get your hands on one in person, then head to The Bank of England, Threadneedle Street, London, EC2R 8AH, where you can swap one straight away.

It’s closed on bank holidays though, if you can believe it.
