Football legend Ian Wright was denied the role of a stormtrooper in the upcoming Star Wars film because he’s not tall enough.

Wright turned up for the Star Wars auditions but was turned down for being two inches shorter than the required height. Ouch. He said on his Radio 5 Live show: “I wanted to be a stormtrooper in Star Wars but you have to be 5ft 11in and I was too short.” (Wright is 5’9).

I had no idea that he was so short, he looks taller on TV. Maybe he should have gone for being an Ewok alongside Warwick Davis.

The casting staff have clearly gotten stricter since the first Star Wars film was released in 1977 where this guy was clearly too tall.

Still, good on Wright for wanting to get involved. I would have jumped at the chance to be a Stormtrooper.
