It’s a story that could have only been written by the internet, and it makes us extremely happy.
We all know the ‘Success Kid’, he’s the star of one of the most famous memes in the history of the world wide web – a meme that is still consistently used to this day.
Well, Justin Griner, father of Sammy (who is 8 these days) will now get a life-saving kidney transplant after his online appeal went viral. SUCCESS!
He started the campaign on April 8 in order to raise funds for his medical treatment. And the campaign hit its $75,000 (£51,000) target within a week after being picked up by the entire internet.
Justin has been suffering with kidney disease for the past 9 years, but had a full kidney failure in 2009 and has been on dialysis ever since.
“His mother died from this disease, please help us write a different story for Justin and his son, Sam.” Those are the words of Justin’s wife and Sammy’s mother, Laney, who took to their GoFundMe page to ask for help.
And speaking to The Daily Dot, she brilliantly said:
We’re the parents of ‘Success Kid’ for goodness sake. If anyone understands the power, the mass, and goodwill of the Internet, it’s those of us lucky to experience it daily.
Amazing stuff. Good work, Internet!
