The odds on Damian Lewis becoming the next James Bond have been slashed massively, coming in from 50/1 to as low as 3/1.
The ginger Etonian has jumped to being second favourite to succeed Daniel Craig in the prized role of James Bond.
Daniel Craig signed a 5 movie deal, so it is believed that the ultimate role will soon be up for grabs.
So far, Idris Elba has been the favourite actor to be the next Bond, but the bookies have seen some big bets being places on the ginger Homeland star that they believe could be significant.
A William Hill Spokesperson said:
This is an unprecedented gamble, as for no apparent reason we have seen bets of up to £200 on Damian Lewis being named as the next Bond. This might well be significant.
The odds on Betfair have dropped from 50/1 to 4/1, and a spokesperson said:
Damian Lewis hadn’t seen any interest in the betting until this weekend, but an absolute landslide in bets has forced us to cut the odds.
Idris Elba looked like a foregone conclusion but Damian Lewis has now thrown a huge spanner in the works.
Personally, I would like Idris Elba to take over the role. He is incredible in everything he is in, and is generally one of the coolest men alive, but I do think Damian Lewis could do a top job as well. What do you reckon?
