Recently, we brought you a story about a guy cutting all of his ex-missus’ stuff in half, but it turns out it was a hoax, and we were fooled. Thankfully, we weren’t alone, as it seemed to fool almost everyone.
The story went viral, appearing on all sorts of websites and news outlets, but like most things in life, it was too good to be true.
The video ‘For Laura’ that went along with the photo’s and eBay listings were all a ploy, devised by German lawyers.
Deutsche Anwaltauskunft, part of the German Bar Association, have come out saying that they are responsible for the story, which was posted under the name ‘Martin G’.
A statement they released says:
We are Martin G.
The idea behind it was to humorously point to a problem that is not only relevant in Germany: too few married couples take precautions for the case of a possible separation – for example with a marriage contract.
The event of divorce then often ends in bitter fights under which not only cars and furniture suffer but especially the affected couples and their children.
Hopefully, at least, you felt well entertained.
We took the bait, but, at least we were entertained, while they made their point. A job well done, guys!
