Jack Stephens is only 15 months old, but he has been through more than most of us ever will in our entire lives.
Jack was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, which basically means that the left side of his heart doesn’t work. He has spent half of his short life in hospital, undergoing 9 major operations, including 4 open heart surgeries. He has also had a stroke, and has had to be resuscitated three times.
But now, the little lad is back at home with his parents, Chris Stevens and Ashton Hodge, and is doing loads better.
His dad, Chris said:
He’s been through so much in such a short space of time but he’s doing brilliantly.
He added: ‘We knew about his condition before he was born and he spent the first five months of his life in hospital.
Jack was only 4lbs 4oz when he was born and the condition has slowed his development. It was really difficult watching him lying in his hospital bed for so long surrounded by machines and tubes.
But we knew it was best for him and he’s battled through everything – he’s a real fighter.
Jack might have to take medication daily, and will eventually require a heart transplant… But right now he is growing up, and is almost walking and talking.
It’s so great to know he is doing well now.
