It appears Chris Evans has upset former Top Gear trio Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May after the Radio 2 DJ revealed he has been filming for a secret episode of the show.
Evans was asked on Sunday Brunch if he had started filming for the revamped Top Gear and announced that he has been working on a special new film for the series.
Not started presenting but we are doing a secret Top Gear film on Tuesday. It still will be secret because nobody knows what it’s going to be but we will make one and see how it goes. We’re making a Top Gear sequence with an independent production company and we’re going to see how it goes.
Afterwards, Clarkson took to Twitter to take a swipe at Evans, and his friends Hammond and May soon joined in the fun, all joking that they were now taking over as presenters of the DJ’s shows.
Insiders have suggested that Hammond and May are expected to turn down a £4million offer from the BBC to return to Top Gear and instead launch a new show with Clarkson on Netflix.
The 49-year-old Evans has previously denied he would take over the role left by Clarkson’s sacking, after his infamous “fracas” with Top Gear producer Oisin Tymon. But now it seems the DJ has changed his mind and will head up the revamped show, after all.
