Some of us, not me, I’m well behaved, have been thrown out of a club before now. Some of you will know about that conversation afterwards with the bouncer, where you try to sweet talk him into letting you back in but never works. But how many of you REALLY tried to get back in?
This irish lad put in a right effort.
18-year-old Hugh McMahon had been on a working holiday in Australia for 12 months and had been partying in SinCity Nightclub in Surfers Paradise, until he got thrown out for falling asleep on a sofa. Then bouncers saw him back inside for a second time, having a boogie on the dancefloor, so threw him back out. They refused him entry a third time, so he tried to find another way in.
His best (or worst) idea was getting in via the roof.
He broke into the roof space of the club, and made his way through the air vent, as you do. Except it didn’t go quite like John McClane in Die Hard, and he got stuck. He ended up getting stuck between pipes, and wrapped up in electrical wiring. Eventually emergency crews had to come to the club to help the plonker out.
Hugh pleaded guilty to trespassing, willful damage and two counts of being refused entry into a licensed premises, and was find £1410 in fines and damages. Damn.
During the sentencing, the magistrate said:
Drunk or sober, it was an absolutely remarkably stupid thing to have done.
You only have yourself to blame.
