This is Richard Lee Norris, and in 1977 he blew off half of his face with a shotgun.

His journey from almost certain death and an incredibly disfigured face, a full GQ magazine article feature, is quite remarkable.

His surgery – which was the most extensive face transplant in history – was extremely controversial, and only gave him a 50 per cent chance of survival.

He spent years hiding his horribly disfigured face after the accident in Fieldale, Virginia, due to constant cruel taunts and bullying.

He battled addiction and suicide during an incredibly depressing life that he described as “living hell”.

However 17 years later, Norris is a much happier man.

Speaking to GQ after being featured in the latest issue, he says: ‘A drop of hope can create an ocean, but a bucket of faith can create an entire world.’

The magazine shows Norris’s incredible transformation on the outside, but also marks how far he has come on his personal journey.

Unfortunately, Norris was only given an inside page, and was outmuscled to the front cover by Kanye West. Who definitely deserves it..
