One of the most popular fan theories from Disney’s Aladdin has finally been confirmed by directors.
Fans of the film had often expressed their belief that the genie, of course voiced by the late Robin Williams, was also the peddler from the opening scene of the film.
Said peddler appears holding the genie’s lamp, and urges us to ‘come closer’.
Given he was also voiced by Williams, and had four fingers – the same amount as the genie – speculation has been rife for years.
Directors John Musker and Ron Clements spoke to E! News, and said:
I saw something that speculates that the peddler at the beginning of Aladdin is the Genie.
So, that’s an urban legend that actually is true.
Apparently, the reveal was supposed to take place at the end of the film, but due to plot changes and editing cuts, it never quite came to pass.
At least now we know…
