38 Man Arrested After Breaking Into Hot Car To Save A Dog

This story really pissed me off.

Michael Hammons from Georgia was arrested for breaking into a car. This sounds fair enough, apart from the fact that he did it to stop the dog that was locked inside from dying. Ridiculous.

Hammons told 11Alive that he heard somebody say that there was a dog in distress in a hot car.

Diane Byard and several others were waiting for police to arrive, when Desert Storm veteran Hammons stepped in and took it upon himself to save the dog.

He says we can’t let this dog die, and he starts smashing the windows.

Hammons used his wife’s wheelchair leg to smash the window.

The dog’s owners demanded that authorites take action against Hammons for the damage to their car, and police officials wanted it noted that they wouldn’t have taken action on their own.

The dog owner was cited for leaving his dog in the hot car.

Hammons told 11Alive that he has seen a lot of death and destruction in his life, which has left him suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder, and added that he didn’t want to see anything else terrible happen if he could help it.

Good on you Michael Hammons, we salute you.
