We’ve all been there – that sinking feeling you get when you realise you’ve left your railcard at home and have to pay the full train fare.

And considering how National Rail keep hiking up their prices, a third off the cost makes a hell of a difference!

Well, now a new mobile phone app is coming to the rescue of forgetful passengers’, saving them from those awful fines.

According to a report from the Press Association, passengers will soon be able to digitally buy and store their discount railcards, which is set to include 16-25, Senior and Two Together.

These could then be shown to rail staff on the app even if a passenger does not have a mobile connection.

Passengers will welcome anything that makes their journey easier and prevent them from being unfairly penalised. We have a complex fares system, so it’s crucial that the rail industry makes sure that travelling using the railcard app is made simple to use.

Train operators are now hunting for a supplier to help develop the app’s technology and hope to be able to launch it on smartphones and tablets in April next year. This could be a game changer!
