A record number of learner drivers have been caught using lookalikes to take their driving test for them, the Daily Mail reports.
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency say that over 700 people have been caught using impersonators to pass their practical driving test for them. And that’s just the people that have been caught.
The finger is being pointed at criminal gangs, who are reportedly charging £1800 to find a lookalike willing to take the test for the struggling (or just plain lazy) learner.
DVSA spokesman Alastair Peoples said:
Driving test fraud is a serious offence and is dealt with accordingly. We have stringent measures in place to detect fraudulent activity and work closely with the police to bring all offenders to justice.
I’m not sure £1800 is worth finding a random lookalike to take your test for you, to then not indicate on a roundabout and fail you.
But hey ho, desperation is an intriguing thing.
