Ainsley Harriott, the celebrity chef who changed the face of British television, is being touted as a potential replacement for Adam Smith on the UK’s £20 note.
One fan of the legendary figure’s work on ‘Ready Steady Cook’ has set up an online petition calling for the ageless TV presenter to adorn legal tender.
The petition’s straightforward mission statement says:
Ainsley Harriot is an oily god, it is only right he gets his glory on the £20 note.
The Scottish philosopher Adam Smith is set to be replaced on the banknote in 2016 and the Bank of England have invited the public to suggest icons who should appear on the £20 note instead.
And could there be a more fitting replacement than the flamboyant genius that is Ainsley Harriott? His skills for creating culinary brilliance from a limited set of ingredients mark him out as one of the greatest figures this country has ever seen.
The Change.org petition has already garnered 1,450 votes (and counting). Make your voice heard here.
