File this one under “headlines I definitely didn’t expect to read today”!

To fight back against homophobia, this badass group of priests decided to strip down and get sexy for a new calendar shoot.

And, seriously, these guys have gone all in on this one. No half measures – these are some very naked, kinky religious figures.

Okay, so admittedly, these lads aren’t actually priests which is a bit of a shame. They’re a bunch of models striking homoerotic poses alongside religious iconography.

The shoot was organised by a group in Romania as a unique way of challenging conservative opinions within the church.

The 2016 edition of the calendar is titled ‘Sancta Paraphilia’, which the creators say translates to “holy desires, or sexual practices that differ from the traditional”.

We reckon this might cause a bit of controversy, especially the quite epic cover design, which depicts Russian President Vladimir Putin and Moscow’s Patriarch Kirill I, two long-standing opponents of LGBT rights, depicted as each other’s brides while wearing skimpy lingerie. Next level!

Over 90 per cent of people in Romania belong to the Orthodox Church and press representative Magdalena De Iona told The Huffington Post that she and the rest of the group behind the shoot hope the calendar will prompt the church “to take some time to reflect about its teachings”.

Art has long been one of the main channels for social change. What we stand for is true love and free will. And that makes us think one day we will find common ground, in a better world.

It’s definitely one of the wildest ways to make people think about an important issue that we’ve ever seen! Good work, lads.
