For the second Copa America in a row, Paraguay managed to beat one of the favourite sides, Brazil, on penalties, to progress to the semi finals.

Derlis Gonzalez was the hero of the night for the nation, after scoring a penalty conceded by Thiago Silva in order to bring the score back to 1-1 and then sending his nation through in the penalty shootout.

While the player should have been on cloud nine, he was brought back down to earth with a bump after discovering his uncle, who was with friends watching the game, had died of a heart attack after the penalty drama.

The tweet basically translates as:

Why today uncle? Why? You left me after a heart attack because I gave you so much joy and so much happiness. I can’t believe it.

The news is obviously tragic, and a huge low after such a high for the unfancied Paraguay side and their star forward, who so much of their hope is pinned upon.

The semi final between Paraguay and Argentina will take place next week, with Gonzalez thought to be available despite the tragedy.
