Footballing legend Paul Gascoigne has won £188,250 in damages from Mirror Group Newspapers after they hacked his voicemail between 2000 and 2010.
The payout was one of eight announced at London’s High Court following a three-week hearing that determined the extent of the wrongdoing from the newspaper and the amount they would have to compensate each individual.
Actress Sadie Frost received the most money, pocketing £260,250 in what is believed to be the single biggest privacy damages payout since the scandal broke five years ago.
Other celebrities to win payments include Lucy Benjamin and Shane Richie, who will receive £157,250 and £155,000 respectively.
Gascoigne pocketed the second highest amount after telling the high court that the hacking (between 2000 and 2010) made him severely paranoid, which in turn led to alcoholism.
During the trial, Trinity Mirror admitted that over 100 articles about the eight claimants were the direct results of phone hacking.
