Sci-Fi comedy classic Red Dwarf is making another comeback, as Dave have commissioned two new series of the show.
Red Dwarf XI and XII will reunite luckless space explorers Lister (Craig Charles), Rimmer (Chris Barrie), Cat (Danny John-Jules) and Kryten (Robert Llewellyn).
The new shows will air on Dave in 2016 and 2017, with production set to begin this autumn.
Red Dwarf co-creator Doug Naylor, who will write and direct the two new series, said:
Frustratingly it’s taken until now to get our ducks in a row and all the boys available at the same time. Now they are, we’re all absolutely delighted!
Cult comedy Red Dwarf first aired in 1988 on BBC 2 but was brought back by Dave for a special in 2009, and then a full series on the channel in 2012.
Dave commissioning editor Simon Lupton said:
Red Dwarf has superb talent attached: writing, directing and acting plus an expert team who absolutely know what they are doing when it comes to delivering a stand-out piece of television.
It has a universal appeal that manages to touch long-standing fans and recruit new ones.
It is fantastic to be collaborating with them again on the next phase of the Red Dwarf adventure.
Personally I think this is smegging great news but are you looking forward to more Red Dwarf next year?
