Yang Xiaoyun has been on a mission since 2009, saving hundreds of animals from being slaughtered.
She saves the dogs from Yulin Dog Meat Eating Festival, where thousands of dogs are rounded up off the streets and killed, then cooked and fed to the festival goers. Now while this is all kinds of wrong, eating dog meat in China isn’t exactly frowned upon, meaning Yang’s actions are all the more commendable.
She spends her pension from her former teaching job on food for the animals, and also rescues cats, and estimates that last year, she managed to save 300 animals from the festival.
The kind hearted soul became depressed after the death of her husband, and that was when she started to rescue the animals, and claims that it has helped her get over the depression and move on from the tragic loss.
