Sometimes you wake up to absolutely tragic news and after seeing that Rio Ferdinand’s wife has passed away after a battle with cancer, that certainly qualifies.
Rebecca Ellison was only 34 years old and leaves behind Ferdinand and three kids, which makes the situation even worse, with the youngest only being a toddler.
It’s times like this when footballing rivalries go out of the window, and it’s fair to say the sport community has been rocked with the news of Ellison’s battle with breast cancer and death, given how quiet it was kept by the footballer and her family.
In a statement, the QPR defender claimed:
Rebecca, my wonderful wife, passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London,
She was a fantastic loving mother to our three beautiful children. She will be missed as a wife, sister, aunt, daughter and granddaughter. She will live on in our memory, as a guide and inspiration.
All we can say is RIP and our thoughts go out to Ferdinand at this awful time for him and his family.
