Ronda Rousey’s next fight and opponent has been confirmed in the form of Bethe Correia, and it will take place in Correia’s home turf of Brazil.
More accurately, Rio De Janeiro on August 1st, and Correia is no joke – she’s currently undefeated in nine professional bouts with a three fight win streak in the UFC.
And that three fight win streak in Rousey’s backyard was all it took for the champion to offer her a chance at the title.
Announcing the fight, Rousey said:
This chick is gonna learn why I’m the last woman on Earth you should f*ck with on August 1. This fight is more than just about an athletic competition. It’s about proving a point and punishing someone.
I felt like if I’m really going to make an example out of Bethe — I don’t just want to defeat her. I want her to leave that arena embarrassed. The best way to do it is to come here and beat her in her own backyard.
An upset is unlikely, and if you’re facing Rousey in the bantamweight division you’re always going to have the odds absolutely stacked against you.
But I’d say this is definitely her best challenge yet, and in this beautiful sport, anything can happen.
Don’t blink during this one.
