Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s latest action movie really didn’t do much for the film critics but it seems to have proved a hit with viewers, as it’s raked in a fortune at the box office.
The movie was expected to rake in $40 million in its first weekend but smashed that number with a haul of $53.2 million in its opening weekend to easily take the official No. 1 spot.
The disaster movie isn’t exactly scientifically accurate but that doesn’t seem to have concerned movie goers, as it’s already taken a whopping $131 million worldwide.
Essentially, what this confirms is that Johnson is box office gold. His two movies prior to this brought in $243 million (Hercules) and $1.5 billion (Fast and Furious 7) respectively.
Do you smell what the Rock is cooking? Money, apparently. Lots of money.
