We’ve all heard of six degrees of separation, but sex degrees of separation is a new one for most people.
The concept might be new, but it’s about to get a lot more popular after Lloyds Pharmacy created an app that lets you know just how many people you’ve actually slept with.
That’s not your magic number in the literal sense – most of us know ours – but rather the people you’ve indirectly slept with.
You know the saying, you’re sleeping with everyone your current sexual partner has slept with before? Yeah, well this app is all about that.
The idea of the calculator is to warn us how easy it is to get STIs, with 440,000 people in the UK alone being diagnosed with one in 2014.
Lloyds created it as part of Sexual Heath Week, an event that takes place every year and is organised by the U.K.’s Family Planning Association.
The sex calculator is based on UK data, and is organised by group and gender.
All you have to do is enter the number of partners you’ve had, according to their age and gender, and watch the numbers go up as it calculates your partners, and then multiplies it by five, hence the six degrees of separation.
It tells you that it’s just for six degrees of separation purposes, and isn’t there to slut shame or make you feel bad about the amount of people you’ve had sex with.
The number might be alarming – because seeing it rise, and rise, and rise, isn’t going to be good for anyone’s blood pressure, but it does at least show you how many people you’ve been exposed to.
Even if it is very literal and quite graphic.
